The Taming of Lucentio

Welcome to my blog. This term, our class is called Drama. In this term, we are going to learn about plays and acting. This unit, we have been reading a play by Shakespeare, "The Taming Of The Strew." This was the first unit that we had to do over video using Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been interesting but we have found a way to make it work. For this Action Project, we were assigned with creating our own sonnet using iambic pentameter. Iambic pentameter is a type of rhythm in the sonnet that follows a "duh-dum" type of beat with ten syllables in each line. In this sonnet, we made it based around a character of our choice from The Taming Of The Shrew. We have also taken a video of ourselves reading this sonnet that we have created. The man that I am talking about in this sonnet, is named Lucentio. He is a man that won the heart of Bianca in Bianca. There were other suitors chasing Bianca but Lucentio won the chase. He is my favorite character in the play because his character is simple yet unique. So, here it is.

Oh Lucentio you handsome sly man
You got Bianca just from hiding
You made Hortensio ditch his great plan
And you won her heart while they were trying.

You are very goodly with your money
You tricked Baptista and you tricked the rest
Compared to you, all others are crummy
Lucentio you are the very best

Petruchio struggled to get his girl
While you caroused with Tranio all night
The rest of the guys got into a fight
Lucentio you are truly the pith

“But in the other’s silence do I see
Maid’s mild behavior and sobriety.”

South Side Cadence

This is an action project for my core class Social Entrepreneurship. In this class, we spent the last few weeks taking a deep dive into businesses. Specifically the smaller details about what makes up a business. We focused on how a business functions and also its mission and vision statement. Overall this unit has been interesting as we spent our time researching and learning the ins and outs of how a business can be successful. We were visited by a few FE guests. We heard from Sharon Cho and Felicia (GCE's fundraiser). Both FE's helped me and my classmates get a better understanding about business. For this AP, we were tasked with coming up with our own Social Entrepreneurship business. We took all of the information and data we collected to create an influential and important business. After taking a look at the possibilities of what my business could be, I landed on a Non-profit organization that is an after school teaching program. This program teaches kids music and musi...

A Letter To the Government

This is an Action Project for my core class Policy. During this term, we have been looking at policy and how and what it is. We looked at it in the constitution and also in the government today. We took a look at different policies in Chicago and how they would change the world in a good or bad way. We were also visited by a few FE guests who should us a deeper meaning behind policy and how it can help us in the end for this project. We were visited by Arne Duncan, Akio Katano, the CCHR, and Nick Anderson. Keeping in mind the things they taught us about, we were tasked with finding a policy in Chicago (preferably a new one), and then creating a letter addressed to someone who represents me and my city asking them to advocate for this policy. The policy I chose was about the Anjanette Young Ordinance. This led me to research more into this policy and why what the police did was so wrong. Not just because they broke into an innocent civilian's home, but because they did so against t...

Should I Have the Right to Renovate my Own Building Without a Permit?

This is an action project or my core class A Nation's Argument. This unit was all about the constitution and its amendments. This led to some interesting conversations about which amendments are important and which aren't as important. For example, the third amendment has been ruled as not important because when would a soldier actually come and sleep in your own house. Another argument was how are these amendments related to the problems in the world today? which problems work against the amendments? In unit 1 we visited 1770 and talked about the thesis that "all men are created equal." In unit 2, we visited 1850 and talked about the antithesis of "all men are created equal." For this action project, I was tasked with finding a rule in the city municipal code that I believe is unjust. I chose the rule of needing a permit to renovate the inside of the building you own.  "A building permit is required for now building construction, renovations, the inst...
