This Action Project is all about demonstrating rhetoric and how it can be used in different situations. For this Action Project, I will be demonstrating rhetoric through a speech that I am writing for Margaret Croke. Margaret Croke is a progressive activist who is running for the Illinois house of representatives to represent the 12th District of Chicago. During this Unit, we have learned about parts of rhetoric like, Pathos, Logos, Ethos, and rhetorical devices. In the video I have posted below, I am reading the speech I have written for Margaret Croke. I have used Pathos, Logos, and Ethos to give my speech more effectiveness. The speech is about what Margaret Croke will do for the lower income communities of Chicago and how will she help them thrive.

I want to be able to change the neighborhood by supporting local businesses and creating new ones. I want to be able to provide jobs for the people living in the community. If we can support local businesses then they can grow and give the neighborhood more opportunities to thrive. For example, when a Jewel-Osco was built in Woodlawn, it created so many opportunities to thrive. I have a quote from Chicago Business.
It says: “The store became a symbol of the neighborhood's comeback, bringing fresh produce and other healthy food options to a South Side “food desert,” providing 200-plus jobs and generating momentum for a broader community-development push in the neighborhood.” Woodlawn was described as a “food desert” and yet they were able to take that title and throw it away. The Jewel Osco has also given over 200 jobs. I want to read you another short paragraph from Sunshine Gospel. It says: For the first time in 40 years. . . read that again. . . for the first time in 40 years there is a mainline grocery store in Woodlawn. “This is a proud moment for Jewel-Osco,” said Doug Cygan, President of Jewel-Osco. “This new location underscores our commitment to providing good jobs, fresh produce and other essentials in order to help enhance a community.”
If Woodlawn, the “food desert” can come back from after 40 years of having nothing as big as Jewel Osco, then the 12th district should definitely be able to thrive, and I believe that I can make that happen.
