A Shocking Action Project

This is an Action Project for my core class Urban Planning. This unit was all about electricity and how it works in circuits, housing, and other appliances. We learned that there were two main circuit types, AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current). We each got our own circuit kits where we made different circuits. Parallel and series circuits are some of the main circuits we focused on this unit. We were able to find the amount of voltage in one circuit using Ohm’s law. For this Action Project, we were tasked with creating a circuit that goes in a sustainable house and also how we can use the resistors of the circuit and transform them into some sort of power saving appliance. Below is an image of the circuit as a diagram and a picture before the circuit was placed into a cardboard housing frame.

Below I have provided an image of my circuit with the frame. I am using the resistors (lights) as a windmill to power my sustainable house, a motion sensor light to save power, and a switch that makes the light dimmer/lighter. The light on the top of the frame is the windmill, the light that is up and to the left is the motion sensor, and the light lower right is the light adjusting switch. This is a great way to connect the house I created to the 7th Sustainable Development Goal because this is a way to create affordable and reliable modern power to the house.

This whole project has been a very interesting experience and has made me think about electricity in other technology. It has also been a very cool project since I was able to create my own circuit from scratch. I struggled with making my frame because I was a little confused on how I needed to create it. Eventually I was able to complete it by looking at examples and I used those to complete my frame.

Cardboard Camera?

This is an Action Project for my core class Light, Sound, and Time. During this Unit, we learned all about light and how it works. We also learned about how light is a part of the visible spectrum. This is a spectrum that shows the types of waves/rays that are on earth. The visible spectrum is also how we see colors. This has also helped us better understand what light is and how we use it to take pictures. For example, when you take a picture using a camera, light is used to leave a image captured onto a surface. For this project, I was tasked with making a camera from a tissue box. The camera I made is called a Camera Obscura. This camera takes light and through a little hole pastes the image onto a piece of parchment paper inside of the camera. As you can see below, those photos were taken from inside the camera when held up to a light. It also shows what the camera looks like and how it turned how after creating it. What is a Hysterectomy?

Welcome to my blog. This is an Action Project for my core class Cure. In this unit, we have been at home talking about cells, what they are, and what they are made up of. We have also taken the time to look at different types of surgeries. Also, we had two special FE guests join us through Zoom and teach us about themselves and what they know to help us get a clearer understanding. The two guests who joined us were Dr. Neeraj Jain and Kellee Athens. For this assignment, we were tasked with interviewing someone who has had any surgery performed on them. For the interview, I chose to interview someone about the surgery they had done. The surgery that was performed was a Hysterectomy which is the removal of the uterus. I have put together a slideshow below explaining all of the risk factors, side effects, and much more detail on how the surgery is performed. "No dietary restrictions. I was super groggy and just slept a lot. I was in the hospital for 1 or 2 days. It took me a week to ...

A Bridge Made of Sticks?

This is an Action Project for my core class Urban Planning. This unit has been all about bridges, equations, gravity, and Newton's Laws. This action project requires us to make a bridge out of popsicle sticks and glue. We are going to take the bridge and put 1 gallon of water on top of it to see if it will not break. This is an excellent idea because it shows gravity and its effect on objects. Newtons three laws are 1. An object will not change its motion unless acted on by an outside force. 2. F = M x A. 3. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. With these bridges, we also need to calculate the Potential/Kinetic energies, angles, and lengths of each triangle in the bridge. Below is an image demonstrating the parts of my bridge that experience compression/tension, and all of the important pieces of the bridge.  CJH/Bridge Visualisation/2021 Calculations: How many sticks did you use?
