This is my Action Project for my core class Forbidden Books. In this Action Project, we have each picked a censored book and read it. The book I chose was The Call of the Wild. This was a book that I had read many times before, and I have loved it each time. It was interesting to find out that this book was censored. So, why was The Call of the Wild banned? It was banned in Yugoslavia and Italy for being "too radical" and was burned by the Nazis because of the author's well-known socialist leanings. So...yeah, interesting right? Welcome to my blog. This is an Action Project for my core class Disease. In this class, we have been studying the human body and all of its body systems. The eleven body systems are the integumentary, muscular, skeletal, nervous, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, endocrine, urinary/excretory, reproductive and digestive and each has its own important role to play. We have each picked a disease that has been in our family. The disease that I picked is asthma. Asthma is a disease that affects the respiratory system . Welcome to my blog post. This is an Action Project for my core class Forbidden Books. So, what is a forbidden/censored book? Well, it is a book that was written and either banned or censored by a government or a school because they think that the book is signifying or implying something they don't like.      In this project, I have teamed up with another student in our class. We put together a dialogue using the Socratic Method. The Socratic Method is a type of argument that is meant to create critical thinking by questioning each person. The Socratic Method is named after Socrates. Socrates was one of the first founders of western philosophy which is why he was so important. He created the Socratic Method because he wanted to make solid conclusions by asking questions and he later taught his students this same method. In this Action Project, we have been studying public art and how it connects to its community. We have also been making trying to define public art. I would define public art as anything that has two things. The first thing is that it has to have a story that is behind the art. The second is that it has to be in the right place to connect the community through art. In the art piece below, my classmates and I have been working on a mural for the side of a building in Lincoln Park. We have been waling around Lincoln Park and trying to figure out how we can connect the mural we are making to the neighborhood.      This is an Action Project for my core class, Stories. In this unit, I studied the Hero's Journey and how it can be related to real life. We have also been learning about the creator of the Hero's Journey, Joseph Campbell. He was an American Professor of Literature at Sarah Lawrence College. In the Hero’s Journey, there are many stages that the “Hero” goes through. The first is The Ordinary World which is the beginning of the story or the normal life of the hero. The second is The Call which is how the hero starts his journey. The third is The Meeting of the Mentor which is where the hero meets his aid or guide. The fourth is The Unknown World which is when the hero leaves his ordinary world behind to face the danger. The fifth is Trials which is when the hero faces dangers that lead him to his destination. This is an action project for mt core class POPULATION. In this project, we have been learning the difference between mutation, natural selection, variation, and evolution. A mutation is the changing of the organism on a more cellular level. Natural selection is like the survival of the fittest where the organism with the most favorable traits will be the ones to most likely survive. Variation is the change in certain genes making the organism different from the others. Evolution is the change of something for the benefit of the organism. This is a fable for my core class STORIES. For the past few weeks, we have been reading and learning about fables. We also went to a play called The Brothers Size, at the Steppen Wolf theater. In that play, there were only three characters. Two of them were brothers and the third one was a best friend. Throughout the play they used a third-person like language, where they would tell us what they were doing, like "Oshoosi went under the car." Below is a fable about a bear, a fox, and a rabbit. They all have jobs that they need to complete but some of them won't get their share done. We all chose a moral for our fable, and if you don't know what a moral is, it is a lesson in a story that you are trying to teach. So, my moral of the story is to "get your work done."
