What is an epidemic and how can we prevent one?

Welcome to my blog. This is a final presentation of the term that shows a certain project I enjoyed doing and wanted to go into more detail about. This term, we have learned about mental disorders and physical disorders in our STEAM class. In our Humanities class, we learned about banning books and the censorship of books. For my final presentation, I had to pick a guiding question from one of our core classes. The guiding question that I picked was from my STEAM class. The question is "How can epidemics be contained?" I took this question and redefined it into a new question, "What is an epidemic and how can we prevent one?"

Below you will find the slideshow based around this question. Each slide explains a different part of epidemics and how they relate to what is going on now (COVID-19).

I enjoyed this project because I was able to understand more about what was going on in our lives today, and also I am now able to give details to people about the spread of COVID-19. I made this project at home because my school is shut down temporarily because of this new disease. It has been different since I am not at my school right now making this project. But, that is how we grow and adapt to new changes. Just like how America is going to have to adapt because of this new virus.

Cardboard Camera?

This is an Action Project for my core class Light, Sound, and Time. During this Unit, we learned all about light and how it works. We also learned about how light is a part of the visible spectrum. This is a spectrum that shows the types of waves/rays that are on earth. The visible spectrum is also how we see colors. This has also helped us better understand what light is and how we use it to take pictures. For example, when you take a picture using a camera, light is used to leave a image captured onto a surface. For this project, I was tasked with making a camera from a tissue box. The camera I made is called a Camera Obscura. This camera takes light and through a little hole pastes the image onto a piece of parchment paper inside of the camera. As you can see below, those photos were taken from inside the camera when held up to a light. It also shows what the camera looks like and how it turned how after creating it. What is a Hysterectomy?

Welcome to my blog. This is an Action Project for my core class Cure. In this unit, we have been at home talking about cells, what they are, and what they are made up of. We have also taken the time to look at different types of surgeries. Also, we had two special FE guests join us through Zoom and teach us about themselves and what they know to help us get a clearer understanding. The two guests who joined us were Dr. Neeraj Jain and Kellee Athens. For this assignment, we were tasked with interviewing someone who has had any surgery performed on them. For the interview, I chose to interview someone about the surgery they had done. The surgery that was performed was a Hysterectomy which is the removal of the uterus. I have put together a slideshow below explaining all of the risk factors, side effects, and much more detail on how the surgery is performed. "No dietary restrictions. I was super groggy and just slept a lot. I was in the hospital for 1 or 2 days. It took me a week to ...

A Bridge Made of Sticks?

This is an Action Project for my core class Urban Planning. This unit has been all about bridges, equations, gravity, and Newton's Laws. This action project requires us to make a bridge out of popsicle sticks and glue. We are going to take the bridge and put 1 gallon of water on top of it to see if it will not break. This is an excellent idea because it shows gravity and its effect on objects. Newtons three laws are 1. An object will not change its motion unless acted on by an outside force. 2. F = M x A. 3. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. With these bridges, we also need to calculate the Potential/Kinetic energies, angles, and lengths of each triangle in the bridge. Below is an image demonstrating the parts of my bridge that experience compression/tension, and all of the important pieces of the bridge.  CJH/Bridge Visualisation/2021 Calculations: How many sticks did you use? A t least 60 sticks. How high will you bridge be when you put a gallon of water on i...
