Jamming Out to Taiko Drums

Hello! This is an action project for Orientation. During this first week back in person we were able to understand what this project is and immediately figure out designs and how we want this classroom to look in the future. In the reflection below, I explain what we did to prepare for this project and how we enjoyed the process we had when researching and experiencing the first week of orientation. This was a fun project to do because we were able to do things I hadn't done before, like laying in the grass listening to taiko drums or synthesizers or designing a classroom.

During the internal investigation we researched classrooms, and how they can change over the years or even not change at all. This project focused on designing a classroom for the school so looking at how the classrooms have changed over the years, helping us get a better understanding on the design portion of making our own classroom. During the external investigation, we went outside to millennium park to try and expand our understanding of a classroom. This was linked to the 5 senses so touch, taste, smell, hear, and sight. In the park we sat in a field surrounded by speakers playing music that we would probably not listen to on our own time. It was interesting to get to listen to these pieces and then write out what our thoguhts were. We were also able to lay down and just listen to it. The two pieces we were able to listen to was Sonorous Admittings by Kioto Aoki and Along Dark by Natalie Chami. After the FE we came back to recap and break down how the experience was and what about them we wanted to study more of. For example, I was curious about the name Sonorous Admittings and how the name came to be/the origin of the name. This led me to researching the definition of each word in the name. Sonorous means "capable of producing a deep or ringing sound" and Admittings means "confess to be true or to be the case, typically with reluctance." Now looking at these definitions, it seems that they have no. correlation at all. But the piece was actually made with Taiko drums which confirms the Sonorous definition. Though Admittings is a little harder to understand as it means something completely different. My theory is that the artist Kioto Aoki took a literal approach with the word Sonorous and a less literal approach with the word admittings.

This project really changed how I would look at classrooms in the future and how we are able to make them look the way we want and giving students a way to focus and get a good learning experience throughout the year. If I could change one thing it would be taking pictures or videos to capture the moment of peace while listening to the art pieces in the park. Over all, I am happy with this project and glad I was apart of it.

Cardboard Camera?

This is an Action Project for my core class Light, Sound, and Time. During this Unit, we learned all about light and how it works. We also learned about how light is a part of the visible spectrum. This is a spectrum that shows the types of waves/rays that are on earth. The visible spectrum is also how we see colors. This has also helped us better understand what light is and how we use it to take pictures. For example, when you take a picture using a camera, light is used to leave a image captured onto a surface. For this project, I was tasked with making a camera from a tissue box. The camera I made is called a Camera Obscura. This camera takes light and through a little hole pastes the image onto a piece of parchment paper inside of the camera. As you can see below, those photos were taken from inside the camera when held up to a light. It also shows what the camera looks like and how it turned how after creating it. What is a Hysterectomy?

Welcome to my blog. This is an Action Project for my core class Cure. In this unit, we have been at home talking about cells, what they are, and what they are made up of. We have also taken the time to look at different types of surgeries. Also, we had two special FE guests join us through Zoom and teach us about themselves and what they know to help us get a clearer understanding. The two guests who joined us were Dr. Neeraj Jain and Kellee Athens. For this assignment, we were tasked with interviewing someone who has had any surgery performed on them. For the interview, I chose to interview someone about the surgery they had done. The surgery that was performed was a Hysterectomy which is the removal of the uterus. I have put together a slideshow below explaining all of the risk factors, side effects, and much more detail on how the surgery is performed. "No dietary restrictions. I was super groggy and just slept a lot. I was in the hospital for 1 or 2 days. It took me a week to

Drawing for 12 Hours with Only a Pen

This is a project for my core class Endurance. For this project, I spent twelve hours doing one thing. This class was all about what is endurance? We started the course by defining endurance and looking at historic people who had to. endure something for a specific amount of time. I spent time trying to figure out what you need in order to endure something for a period of time. In order to endure something, you have to be strong-willed, unbreakable, and willing to face hardship and know that it won't be fun or pleasant. So what is endurance? Endurance is being able to push through a hardship/inconvenience. Being able to endure something is one of the hardest things in the world. Especially when it isn't something you choose to do. Forced endurance is something that many people throughout history had to go through. A specific example we looked at was Ellie Wiesel and how he and his family and his whole culture was tortured and killed over the span of years. Ellie lost all of hi
